For the pass week I've felt like most of you. Seeing the images and hearing more and more about the tragedy breaks my hearts. In praying for the people of Haiti I found myself asking "what else can I do?"
A few days later I received an email from an editor at Paste Magazine asking if I would allow them to use my song (Criminal, which was already in their media vault) as part of Songs for Haiti. I replied back with one word word "Yes!" To raise awareness Paste is giving away songs with your donation. Here is the full message from Paste Magazine:
Like so many others, Paste has been moved by the tragedy facing the survivors of the Haitian earthquake. We have launched “Songs for Haiti” (songsforhaiti.org) as a way to raise money and keep awareness high. A diverse array of artists — Ludacris, Of Montreal, Andrew Bird, Hanson, Umphrey’s McGee, Switchfoot, Bruce Cockburn and over 200 others — have donated MP3s (many unreleased) for us to give everyone who donates to help Haiti.
You can donate through Paste or to a charity of your choice (just tell us), and you will have access to our Download Vault and 250 songs (and counting). We don’t think people should donate to the relief efforts in Haiti just to get a reward. But this gives Paste and artists a way to help, using the thing we’re most passionate about—music.
To donate, click below. 100% of money contributed through “Songs for Haiti” will be spread among three charities active in Haiti: Doctors Without Borders, Red Cross, and Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund.

If you’ve donated elsewhere, click below. You just need to tell us, and you can download the same songs as a thank you. It’s our hope that this “honor system” approach will help generate greater excitement and spread the support to the many worthy organizations out there. The goal is to help Haiti, not draw attention to Paste or how much we’re able to raise directly.

Note that donations submitted directly to “Songs for Haiti” are not tax deductible, since Paste is not a charitable organization. However, we are passing 100% of the donations to charities actively working in Haiti. (We do plan on launching a charitable organization & website (Songs For Good) to use this infrastructure to support other charities as soon as we can complete the legal process.)
To see the songs available, go the Download Vault. Artists include: Ludacris, Hanson, Switchfoot, Kevin Barnes (from Of Montreal), Andrew Bird, Marco Benevento, Sarah Borges, Bruce Cockburn, Jason Isbell, Bill Mallonee, Mugison, Sila and the Afrofunk Experience, Wovenhand, Xiu Xiu, Arrested Development, Ben Folds, Bob Mould, Cee Lo Green, Cowboy Junkies, Emmylou Harris, Indigo Girls, Josh Ritter, Marc Broussard, Mark Kozelek, The Greencards, Matthew Sweet, Of Montreal, Passion Pit, Patterson Hood, She & Him, The Avett Brothers, Dan Dyer, The Decemberists, The Jayhawks, The Minus 5, The Low Anthem, Wovenhand, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Jill Andrews and The String Cheese Incident. (Note: Some of these songs are from the “Save Paste” campaign.)
Every bit counts and the need is great. Along with your donations please say a prayer for Haiti and it people, they have a long road ahead of them.
